Texas Hold'em Poker - 7 November 2007
A field of players 34 strong battled for five hours for the converted CSSC Poker Trophy in London's third CSSC poker night.
Large chip stacks, with low blinds saw a long period of play
without any casualties for the first two hours. As the night progressed, and the blinds (the forced
bets that two players have to make) got more expensive, a steady trickle of players began to get
knocked out of the Competition. Four tables, became three, then two. Some good poker finally
saw eight players emerge and we were down to one final table.
The final table
saw some strong play as the field narrowed down to the final two. Just before 11 O'clock Barry Austin and Larry Stockton, who was badly short stacked (had only a few chips), entered into a great heads up battle,
which saw some amazing action, however Barry's chip lead, along with two pairs, 4s and 2s saw
him take the trophy and wine just before a quick dash to catch the last train.
It seems that all had a good time, and the evening has a good atmosphere. Aside from a small confusion about the ante (the forced bet) that everyone had to start making about half way through, members of the poker committee saw the night through smoothly; next time, just for the record, all sat at the table will be required to post an ante in addition to the blinds.
Thanks to Daniel Cassidy and James Mitchell for organising the night - next one's in January, get booking!
