Texas Hold'em Poker - 16 January 2008
Wednesday 16th January was the date of the latest CSSC London Texas Hold’em Poker tournament at Chadwick Street. This was the fourth tournament held so far and each time the number of entrants is increasing. Fifty six competitors entered this latest event so the field was set for another thoroughly absorbing competition and with a fantastic House of Fraser Hamper as first prize, the stakes were set high!
I would like to thank all the competitors that took part as they created a terrific atmosphere on the night and the general friendliness exhibited helped the newer players settle and enjoy the game.
The competition itself is always of a high standard and this latest one was no exception. Whittling down the field of fifty six to a final table of eight took up most of the evening but with fortune playing her part in games of chance, a few newer Hold’em players made it to the latter stage of the competition which was extremely encouraging.
However, at the very end experience did tell and the final table of eight saw the same familiar names. Steve Cornelius was first out in eighth followed by Matt Coughlan in seventh and Josh Martin in sixth just out of the main prize places. Nick Goodbody took fifth and the box of Thornton’s Classic Selection, whilst in fourth place Nurul Ahmed took the little bottle of bubbly. Steve Martin was third and took the Pizza Express meal card. The previous competition winner Barry Austin came second this time and pocketed the Jack Daniels Poker set box but the winner and ultimate big stacker was Andy Hobbs who won the posh hamper. Well done all.
I need to especially thank Adrienne as co-tournament director on the night for doing a great job. Also poker committee members Chris for his wonderful poker software and general savoir faire and Dan for his tireless efforts in helping us out whenever needed. Thank you.
