Summary
The London Civil Service Bowling Club has completed a successful 80th
season at Chiswick. Despite the death of two of our keenest supporters
- Brian Dobedoe (ex-BA) and Alex Yirrell (ex-BT) during the
winter, membership was maintained at 55 including 6 women. We played
19 matches including annual fixtures against MOD, the Banks
Bowling Association, Farnborough Civil Service and Middlesex
County VPs Bowling Association of which the Club won 12. It was
unfortunate that 3 other matches were cancelled by our opponents.
25 members (a little down on last year) entered the Club
Championships in singles, pairs, triples and fours. The following London
Champions qualified to play in Enlish National Champinships at
Leamington Spa during August Bank Holiday week:
- Singles - Des Hunter (Royal Mail)
- Pairs - Nick Skidmore (Customs), Paul
Cater (BT)
- Triples - Tony Lea (MOD), John Stone (MOD), Nick Skidmore
(Customs)
- Fours - Martin Jewitt (Foreign Office) Ian
Streames (Royal Mail), Keith Beckett (Inland Rev), John Riddington
(Lord Chancellors Dept)
Our Men's Pairs Champions played well again this year in the Nationals
to win the Championships for the 3rd year running.
5 women members competed in the London Women's Singles Championships in
a round-robin tournament at Chiswick on 1 August. The Champion
for the second year running was Christine Wooler (GOSE) and
the finalist, Anne Coward, represented London in the National
Champinships at the ROKO Sports Ground, Nottingham on 8 August,
which was won by Christine Wooler - also for the second year
running. Anne Coward did well to come 3rd overall.
August: London CSSC Women's Singles Bowling Championships
The London CSSC Women's Singles Bowling Championships 2005 were
held at Chiswick on Monday 1 August. Six competitors participated
in a round robin tournament in 2 sections, with each player playing
2 matches. The winner of each round being the first to score 21
shots. The winner of each section - Christine Wooler and Anne Coward,
then played a final - spoilt by rain - which Christine Wooler won
18 to 8 shots against.
Both finalists, Christine and Anne, travelled up to Roko Nottingham
to contest the CSSC National Singles on Monday 8 August, which
Christine Wooler won for the second year running.
Congratulations to Christine, and thanks to Maureen Grimwood for
organising the London event.
March: London CSSC Indoor 4s Bowling Championships
The
London CSSC Indoor 4s Bowling Championships 2005 were concluded
successfully on the 29th March with 9 teams taking part.
The final at Herga Indoor Bowls Club Harrow was an exciting match
compared to the semi-finals in the preliminary round-robin tournament
held at Croydon, where the eventual London champions Tony Lee (MOD),
John Riddington (LCD), Nick Skidmore (HMRC) and Paul Cater (BT)
narrowly beat David Miller's (ex ACCAS)
team with the last bowl. The London champions were unfortunate
to lose to Scotland, the eventual winners of the competition, in
the
last
of their group
matches. They were deprived of a place in the CSSC National Final
at Nottingham Indoor Bowling Club at the end of April.
