Report
We had already observed the Barbados mode of play – ie slamming
down the dominoes on solid tables, which meant the game sounded
somewhat like machine gun fire. After the 6-a-side practice round,
the final 2 pairs moved upstairs, where the noise brought in a
good audience.
The CSSC London pair of Messrs Heaton and Lawley had almost given
up hope after witnessing the speed and skill of the locals during
the practice. They lost the first set 6-3 but then gained confidence
and got wise to some of the local “tricks” (they felt
there were coded messages in the slamming movements!), doing well
to win the second set 6-4.
At the start of the third set they were on a roll and won 3 of
the first 4 games, but eventually the noise, atmosphere and (some
said) the gamesmanship, saw the locals through in a close-fought
finale, to win the set 6-4.
Results
Barbados won: 6-3, 4-6, 6-4
